1. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER?
NO, NOT ANYMORE!
It might be safe to assume that almost everyone has seen or heard this statement: “Knowledge Is Power!” and believed it to be true. Addressing something that we have believed to be true but isn’t, isjust ONE of the major mind-set shifts that many people must choose to make. Shifting from one programmed mind-set at a very young age, to a more accurate mind-set shift that serves them more productively in the NOW, is a huge challenge.
However, you have risen to the occasion and have made the commitment to choose whatever mind-set shifts are true and accurate to help you achieve and increase results in your life. CONGRATULATIONS!
Now let’s examine why “Knowledge Is Power” is NOT true.
When I graduated from Missouri University at the age of 19, I was young and ready to catch the world by the tail. I remember the President of the University going on and on and on at graduation, without really hearing a lot of what he was saying. However as he was concluding, he caught my ear with this statement: “Congratulations to a graduating study body. You have attended this fine university and received knowledge that will now give you the power to go out and make all of your dreams come true.”
“WOW,” I thought. “I can go out and make all of my dreams come true and I had a lot of them.”
Several years later, although I had become successful in my real estate career, I heard a much wiser and truer statement: APPLIED KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
That was my epiphany moment. At that time, I had a mind-set shift that has served me well to this day.
The information I have learned and the knowledge I have obtained is important and valuable, but it is only important and valuable if I apply it.
APPLIED KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
Once we are born, take our first breath, we start collecting information and knowledge from almost every source that touches our young lives and do so until we take our last breath. We are inundated with information and knowledge from every side of our human existence, often to the point of being in over-load.
One extraordinary aspect of the mind is that it has filters. So while we hear or read so much, our mind has what might be called an “automatic valve” for how much it actually allows to come through our subconscious to our conscious minds. Thank goodness for that!
Most of us have some knowledge about some things. Others have a wealth of knowledge of many things. Then there are some who think they have information and knowledge about everything. (Of course, you don’t know anyone like that?)
The question to be asked is: Not how much we know, but how much do we apply?
Knowing will not change life results; applying it will.
As a foundation for building this great truth: APPLIED KNOWLEDGE IS POWER, let’s start with a check up of ourselves and discover some very powerful truths.
This experience called life is a part of a journey we are on. It has a beginning called: Birth. It has a middle called: Life. It has an end called: Death. As Henry David Thoreau so well put it: “Most of us will have so little respect for life that we will reach the point of death without ever having lived at all.”
The challenge of learning to live life to the fullest will be mainly left up to us as, individuals. We will largely be our own teachers. Of course, there will be many from whom we can learn. Others can share ideas and thoughts. But when it gets right to it,
to the real life adaptations, actualizations and applications, the choice will be ours to make. As United States President Truman said: “The buck stops here.”
On our journey, we will travel many differed and varied roads. We will make good choices for good results, and we will make some bad choices that bring bad results. It seems so simple: Just make good choices all your life and you will experience good results all of your life. While that is a great “dream world” to live in, it isn’t our real world. However, with the more knowledge and information we acquire and apply, the less likely we will be to make bad choices.
I have been repeatedly asked: “Dr. Z, why do people make bad choices?”
My research indicates one of two explanations. One, people make bad choices out of “ignorance”…which simply means they do not know.” As Dr. Norman Vincent Peale said: “When you stop learning, you start dying. Keep learning until you take your last breath.” Not knowing is not the crime…Not learning is.
The second explanation for people who bad choices is not so acceptable: Stupidity. This, of course, just by implication that “one” knows and “one” does even though knowing that the result will be bad. In that scenario, there is little room for tolerance.
Personally, I will own the fact that in some areas, I am “ignorant”…lacking Knowledge. Knowledge is not expensive; ignorance is expensive.
. Personally, I will own that in different times of my life, I was just plain “stupid.” I knew better, but did anyway.
For us to have MORE – BETTER - GREATER results in our lives, we must always be in a mind-set to learn and then with great personal zeal and expectation, apply what we know.
One consistent element that will apply to all of us is to keep learning, and then most importantly, keep applying the knowledge we have and will forever acquire.
Let’s take a look at what I call the “whole pie of life.” Let’s divide it into six slices and give a name to each one. As we do, it will become obvious the knowledge that we have in some areas may be more than in others. It should help us become aware of what knowledge we are applying in each of these areas.
PHYSICAL AREA
There is so much information and knowledge afforded to us through so many venues regarding “Physical Health.” All the knowledge in the world will not bring “Physical Health” unless we individually apply what works for us. Since we all are so unique and special, there is no “one” way to achieve “Physical Health,” but we do know that the “one” that works for you is the “one” you apply.
Discover a new perspective of what comprises “Physical Health” in the acronym of HEALTH:
H - Humor
E - Exercise
A - Appearance
L – Leisure
T – Tranquility
H – Habits
Take an inventory of each of these and how you are applying them in your life.
MENTAL AREA
The mind is where our thinking, emotions and feelings are housed. The mind is a highly complicated piece of “machinery” that, although studied for centuries, still remains mysterious. However, there are some aspects of the mind we can apply that are worth our consideration to help us achieve greater positive results.
Discover a new perspective of the mind in the acronym of LEARN:
L –Learning Center
E – Emotion and Feeling Center
A- Attitude and Thinking Center
R – Reason Center
N – Now Center
Your mind is your greatest friend or worst enemy. Choose to apply each of the centers of your mind to increase your positive results.
SPIRITUAL AREA
Every one will have a different definition of “Spiritual.” The following insights are meant to be inclusive, not exclusive. Our “Spiritual” area plays a significant role in the quality of life we experience. Discover a different perspective of the “Spiritual” area of life and how you can individually apply these to your unique being through the acronym of PRACTICAL:
P –Pardon
R –Reasonable
A – Alive
C – Communication
T – Thankful
I – Individuality
C – Creative
A – Active
L –Love
Each of these characteristics combined can produce powerful results in your life as you apply them daily.
SOCIAL AREA
Our “Social” area is the part of our lives that allows us to develop meaningful relationships in our community, church, social and political arenas, and many others.
Discover a new perspective of “Social” with the acronym, FRIEND:
F – Fulfilling
R – Resourceful
I – Involved
E – Emotional
N – Needful
D – Developed
When you apply each of these aspects to your “Social” area of life, you will experience a more rewarding result and it can be a win-win relationship.
FINANCIAL AREA
Our “Financial” area is made up of many different areas: Career, job, business, money, investments, etc. What can we chose to apply in our “Financial” area that can create more, better, greater results? Discover another perspective of “Financial” using the acronym: POWER. Expand your mind beyond what you may currently think when you read the word POWER;
P – Plans
O – Order
W – Work
E – Enthusiasm
R – Rewards
Had you ever thought that the word “Power” could be so positive when you apply each of these aspects to your life?
FAMILY AREA
The concept of “Family” continues to evolve. It may or may not be today what it once was in your own personal life. Because each of us comes from such different backgrounds, the word “Family” can have many meanings and characteristics. Please discover a simple applicable system that any “Family” can apply to increase positive results for every member. Every “Family” member, in whatever kind of “Family,” may just be looking for the acronym, CARE:
C – Communication
A – Attitudes
R - Reinforcement
E – Extra Effort.
These sound so simple, and yet require: Applied time, energy, effort and money.
If there is one phrase that I could choose to describe how you will travel your life-journey, it would be: “It’s up to you.” A volatile choice must be made on your part as to what you choose to have as the results in your life. What price are you willing to pay to not know or to not apply what you know?
Two questions we might ask ourselves on a daily basis:
1. What do I clearly choose for my life in all areas?
2. What knowledge am I willing to apply and what actions am I will to take to get it?
What ever, who ever, where ever we are today, we are a product of the knowledge that we have learned and applied. DO not look back with regret or guilt…just start today.
Take a brief inventory of your life and all of the areas of your life. Identify what you know and then ask yourself: “Am I applying this today?”
A famous artist, Nikos Kazantzakis, says it this way: “You have your brush, you have your colors, you paint paradise, then in you go.” You literally can paint the kind of life you choose to experience. You can paint your life a life of good dreams or difficult disasters.
The perceptive writer, Flannery O’Connor, affirmed a basic truth: “There may never be anything new to say, but there is always a new way to say it. And since, in art, the way to saying a thing becomes a part of what is said, every work of art is unique and requires fresh attention.”
In sharing this knowledge, it is my objective to provide you with ONE refreshing thought and idea that you can apply on your most exciting and challenging journey called “life.”
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! NOT ANYMORE.
APPLIED KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

2.Creating and Sustaining Personal Success
Believing In Myself and Getting To Where I Want To Be
Dr. Zonnya To begin creating and sustaining personal success, you must have a starting point. From that starting point, you discover Wisdom, Inspiration, Success, Health and Happiness on the journey.
One of my favorite quotes is from Souls on Fire by Elie Wiesel: But where was I to start? The world’s is so vast; I shall start with the country I know best, my own. But my country is so large, I had better start with my town, but my town, too is large. I had best start with my street. NO: My home. NO: My family. NO: Never mind, I shall start with myself.
To discover and develop a “balanced self-love,” a “balanced self-confidence,” a “balanced deserve level” is the first step toward creating More, Better, Greater positive results in your life.
It has been said through the years that the initial years of our lives are where most of our programming is learned and follows us throughout our lives. Much of our initial programming was negative; so that will affect the kinds of choices we make. Until “one magic day” a light bulb comes on: You have been listening to other people and their programming, you have been reading books by people who present a Positive approach to life, and you are beginning to observe others who have a different kind of life . . . then you begin to make major ‘mind-set shifts’ and results begin to change.
At first, reprogramming your mind-set may feel strange, even to the point of uncomfortable. Please know that is OK, even normal. Just continue to keep an open mind, ears, eyes, and heart and you will begin to discover the Greater you that is inside you.
The results in sharing these ideas with you is to give you simple, practical, adaptable, usable and workable systems on “balanced self- love,” “balance self-confidence,” and “balanced deserve-level.”
I am often asked: On what do you base your belief in self-love? I firmly believe that self-love is based upon more than just philosophy or psychology. While positive self-love can be viewed through the eyes of the thought and mind, I am also convinced it encompasses a “spiritual” dimension.
I purposely use the word “spiritual” as opposed to religion or denominationalism. For me, the “spiritual,” is bigger than a religion. It is empowering to have a ”faith” in a higher source than myself. Faith in the Creator of the universe and faith in a positive Spirit that surrounds me with power gives me a sense of authority, a feeling of competency, and a presence of who I am.
A SOS MOMENT
Love they neighbor as thyself.
|
I believe this to be an internationally accepted way to think, live, and treat others. Just for exactness . . . the word “as” means “equal to.” “Love thy neighbor ‘equal to’ thyself.”
Balanced self-love will be determined by what and how I see myself, which then will dramatically affect on what and how I see others.

3. How to Stay Motivated -
Part 1
by Dr. Zonnya,
“The First Lady of Motivation”
As a "Motivation Trainer" for over 20 years, I have researched the subject of "Motivation." It is talked about a lot, but not very much is taught or written about it. It seems to be a word that eludes us. I often here people say: "Can you motivate me?" or "I need motivating." or "I've lost my motivation."
Part of the challenge in understanding the concept of "Motivation" is to understand what it means. We seem to have a distorted definition of what it is. Since we know that words have positive or negative energy connected to them, it is important that we know what words we are saying and what those words mean.
Let's start our journey into understanding "Motivation" with a workable definition.
Motivation is:
1. Making a Choice
2. To Take Action
3. For a Result
4. Whether You Feel Like It or Not.
"Motivation" is about what you choose, not how you feel. The first myth about "Motivation" is that it somehow has something to do with how you feel. So if you feel like exercising, you are motivated, and if you don't feel like exercising, you aren't. If you feel like working your network marketing business, then you are motivated; if not, you just aren't motivated. If you feel, like going to church, you are motivated; if you don't feel like it.... And as you can imagine, there are hundreds of scenarios that we could mention.
Once we accept a "new definition" of "Motivation," we can move forward to using it as a tool in our lives to help us achieve results.
